What is causing the student nurse attrition crisis?
Haven’t heard of our podcast? Let’s Talk Nursing is a bi-weekly podcast featuring nurse guests speaking openly and candidly about topics in person-centred care, nurse wellbeing and career.
In the latest episode, Barry Hill – professor of Nursing and head of School for Nursing and Midwifery at Buckinghamshire New University – outlines the current state of the student nurse attrition crisis, the challenges that students are experiencing and the solution to increasing retention and applications to nursing education.
You can also listen to the episode on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Health promotion for non-communicable diseases: the complete series
In this series, authors Gillian Morris (lecturer, School of Health Sciences, University of Dundee) and Brian Webster (trainee district nurse, NHS Tayside) outline the key lifestyle interventions that enable the prevention, improvement or even reversal of the four major non-communicable diseases. Read the reflective exercises at the end of each article to place the theory into context, and practice implementing brief interventions.
A nurse’s journey with autism: challenges and rewards
In this personal article, Christopher Barber (PhD candidate and retired learning disability nurse) talks about his journey of being autistic and how this affected his journey as a nurse. Christopher writes about the challenges he experienced in the workplace, but also highlights that being an out and proud autistic nurse has served to open many doors for him throughout his career.
Note: This is free to access, only for this month!
The role of the clinical research nurse in supporting cancer clinical trials
While it is crucial that clinical trials involving children and young people take place, they present a unique set of ethical considerations and challenges. In this article, Claire Camara – lecturer in Pre-Registered Children’s Nursing at Northumbria University – outlines the structure of clinical trials of investigational medicinal products, the need for children and young people to be involved, as well as considerations around consent, autonomy and decision making.
